Milestones Quiz

A digital version of the SWYC, a validated developmental screener recommended by the AAP, free to any parent.

What it is

A digital version of the SWYC, the Survey of Well-being of Young Children, which is a validated developmental screener recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. A parent answers a short set of questions about their baby and gets a real result: where the child is developmentally, and what to do next. It is one of the very few validated assessments of its kind available free. Since launch, 208 people have completed it.

Who it's for

Parents of infants, most of whom arrive slightly worried and would like to be told something concrete. Particularly the ones who would never have been offered a screener at all.

Why I built it

Every child is meant to receive at least one validated developmental assessment in their first year, and around 60% of pediatricians don't offer one. That gap isn't a knowledge problem on the parent's side, it's an access problem. The instrument already exists, it's already validated, and it's already free, so there was no good reason a parent shouldn't simply be able to take it. It's also the front door to Sensiboo, but it had to be worth doing on its own, because a quiz that exists only to harvest an email address is obvious within two questions and poisons the relationship it's meant to start.

How it's built

Vite front end, a small API, and email delivery of the result. The scoring follows the SWYC's own instrument rather than a version I invented, because the entire value is in it being the validated one. The constraint was that the result had to be worth reading whether or not you ever hear from us again.
